example of bad dubbing: One Piece by 4kids, seriously One Piece is like the holy land for us anime nuts, it´s the single longest ongoing project out there, it´s the most beloved Series to be released, it has the BEST (And I´ve experienced Hell and High water in this category) Fansubs ever Kaizoku Fansubs, a company created solely to translate One Piece the way it was meant to be.

However, all artistic integrity, all humor, all the music, all the “offensive” fight scenes and humor scenes are removed, raped, and replaced by some sort of raw sewage and/or american propaganda… In short watching 2 such eps was the closest I´ve felt to crying for a good long time
now that that rant is done, yes there is some rivalry in the voice acting, sometimes the english voice has the advantage of having a predecessor and simply fixes whatever mistakes he made in his own version of the lines, this is smart dubbing.
Most dubs however completely miss the point of their senteces and don´t do this, which in turn makes me dislike them as a general rule

There are however a few anime´s that just get resurrected really in their dubbing, with good voice acting and accurate sentence lengths, such are for example: Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, and a few others these are though the most memorable for me
ultimately it´s up to your tastes obviously, I do however ask that everyone that reaches the “Holy Land” that is One Piece, plz plz PLEASE! do NOT watch the 4kids version lest it be for comparison purpose alone, watch Kaizoku fansubs version, the subs no matter how hard it may be for you… once you have watch 1!!! ep of the 4kids version and cry with me over a shot of whiskey and Tom waits music in the background :/

I’m actually not really all that into anime. I just fell in with the “wrong” crowd… and it just happened.

But I don’t really mind Japenese anime with English subtitles… the only thing I have against it, is that I can’t nap while listening to it. You have to keep your eyes open. :S

You’ve been busy! I’m glad you got around to seeing Gísli’s new place. Cause that place is awesome.
Too bad you didn’t like Stranger Thank Fiction that much, I absolutely loved it. People have different tastes I guess. Next time we’ll check out some Firefly.
